As part of my PhD research, I explored the representation of emotions through abstract visuals. To gain an understanding of how people visualize their emotions, we conducted workshops where participants produced emotion visualization drawings. Based on these workshops we developed an emotion visualization framework, EMOTE. This framework is designed to guide designers in creating emotion visualizations, particularly in AR, and provides a set of questions to consider such as the number of people's emotions being visualized, the placement of these visualizations in relation to the people and the space, and the choice between organic or geometric shapes. To make the framework more accessible, I created a web application to introduce and demonstrate the various choices outlined in the framework.

The framework was published as an extended abstract in HCII'2021 and our evaluation of the framework using the online tool was published as a full paper in AH'22.
