This project was created by a design team from Koc University in response to a joint call from Digilogue and SALT for university teams to innovate new methods of accessing and interacting with the digital archives of SALT, a research institute based in Istanbul. We investigated innovative methods of interacting with archive data, with the general public as the target audience rather than just researchers.
A section of the SALT archive is presented to the audience in a unique format, highlighting the connection between the archive items. The users are welcomed with a randomly selected archive item and are encouraged to navigate the archive based on the similarity of items - which is calculated using a blend of four factors: visual similarity, archive metadata, Google knowledge API, and objects depicted in photos.
I took part in conceptual ideation and was responsible for the development of the web prototype.
